JYM Retreats Schedule 2010 - 2011 Program Year

September 17-19, 2010 at Woolman Hill Retreat Center

Theme:  "Making room for God" *

So where and how do you, and we, make room for God, Spirit, and that of the Holy Spirit within our lives on a regular basis? Are we aware of God minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, or less frequently? Does it matter how much or how little we are “mindful” of that of the divine at work in our lives? We will explore this theme together at our first fall retreat, on Woolman Hill! Signup for this retreat begins on August 20th.

November 19-21, 2010, at Westport Friends Meeting

Theme:  "Spirit Rising"  (The Bread Retreat!)

People who make bread and many of us who savor its’ feel, aroma and taste, are convinced that there is something holy going on among and between the ingredients, the baker and eventual consumer.  Join us for a spiritual romp through sacks of flour and wafts of warm loaves. The “bread” retreat happen once every three or four years…so don’t miss it! As we joyfully make bread, we will consider what it means to pay attention and be fully present to the Spirit Rising within every loaf that each child makes. Master bread maker Gretchen Baker-Smith will lead our bread making project (along with other bread-loving staff chosen especially for this retreat).  Children will go home on Sunday with their own lovingly tended loaves! Signup begins October 15th.

January 28-30, 2011 at Wellesley Friends Meeting

Theme:  Praying with our hands and feet.**

There are many ways of praying, being in prayer and being held and fortified as a result of prayer.  But prayer and praying can also be about action, place and movement, too, fromthe simplest of mundane tasks to life and world changing events.  Our January retreat is also "the Sculpey Retreat" as led by the fabulous Gretchen Baker-Smith!  Gretchen and children, centered within prayer, spiritually and thematically, will discover where the Spirit and Sculpey shall lead. Sign-up begins December 20th.

March 18-20, 2011 at Westport Friends Meeting

Theme: “Bodyworks”

(This retreat sponsored jointly by JYM and JHYM Retreats. Gretchen Baker-Smith, co-leader.) Our annual retreat for 6th graders only! A smaller transition retreat designed just for 6th graders with special games, foods and discussions. Our “Bodyworks” small group workshop will tenderly and playfully explore what’s going on with changing bodies and emotions and how to keep these precious gifts from God, safe. Sign-up is open anytime for this special retreat. Parents are especially encouraged to speak with Kevin and/or Gretchen in advance to obtain additional special info regarding this retreat.

May 13-15, 2010 at Woolman Hill

Theme:  "Bubbles of Troubles"

Things happen. We all have worries and troubles that sometimes make our lives challenging. Where do we find help for our worries and hurts? In addition to family, friends, teachers and Quakers within our meetings, where else might we receive comfort and clarity? At this retreat we will explore how having an experience of faith, using prayer, music or being in a spiritual community (like our retreats!) can help us during times of troubles and worries.  Signup begins April 15th, right after you mail out your taxes!

Staff with us! If you would like to explore what’s involved with staffing JYM Retreats, please visit us online, or speak with Kevin. For additional info about our program and to sign your child up for a retreat, please visit us online. Thanks!
