New England Yearly Meeting
Oct. 1 - 3, 2010 Providence (RI) Meeting
To Whom Do You Belong?
In our culture, we are defined by what we do. ‘I’m a soccer player, a musician, a Magic fanatic.’ In many other cultures, the important question is not what we do but “To whom do you belong? Who is your community? Who is your family?” Come and help us begin to build this year’s JHYM community --at our first retreat in Providence in a long time! Registration starts August 20th.
Nov. 5 - 7, 2010 Woolman Hill (Deerfield, MA)
The Inner Light, the still, small voice, the presence of God……Nope, we can’t always explain it, describe it, or even understand it. In our cynical world, it can be a challenge to be a seeker of anything that can’t be quantified and recorded, especially concerning the Spirit. And yet, central to Friends is the honesty, beauty and awe in the Divine unknown. Come and share a weekend where, as singer, songwriter Susan Werner says, we “Don’t explain it away.”
Jan. 14 - 16, 2011 Westport (MA) Meeting
This is our 7th annual music retreat! Every attender and staffer brings a piece of music to share that speaks to them of God, Love and….you guessed it – Peace. In addition to the workshops in the afternoon that delve into a wide range of music, we will have folksinger Joe Crookston back with us to lead singing, and to help us explore the power of music to spread the Light.
Feb. 25 - 27. 2011 Wellesley (MA) Meeting
We all have shining and rough parts. Middle School can be a particularly hard time – so much eye rolling, put downs, drama around who’s popular, and who’s not…. This weekend is both a fun time-out from that and an opportunity for thoughtfully looking inward. How can being more honest and forgiving about our own imperfections create more compassion and Light for others?
March 18 - 20, 2011 Westport (MA), with JYM Retreats
This annual retreat at Westport Meeting, just for our beloved 6th graders, is jointly offered by the JYM and JHYM Retreat programs. Registrations for this one-of-a-kind special retreat are welcome anytime. Please be in touch with Kevin Lee, JYM Retreats leader and/or Gretchen Baker-Smith.
Stuff, friends, food, money, safety, control, time, love….. When is enough, well, enough? How might contentment from within cultivate a more generous heart in our presence and actions day to day? We’ll share thoughts on inner peace, simplicity, right use of resources, and what we can do when we have ‘plenty and then some.’ We’ll also go out on service projects, and on Saturday night, celebrate our 8th Graders who will be moving on to Young Friends in the Fall.
