New England Yearly Meeting
Oct. 2-4, 2009 Framingham Monthly Meeting (MA)
The answer’s not clear, is it? You ask: “Are these Quakers dead or alive? What yearly meeting are they from -- and exactly who are we talking about (names and social security numbers, please)?” With so much emphasis on being faithful to the personal relationship we have with God, it can be challenging to answer what we have in common. What can we say if we consider all of the Religious Society of Friends – or even just our JHYM community? What does it mean to call ourselves Friends?
What are you looking for? What is your deepest longing? Do you honor and give space for your heart’s yearnings and let them shape your days and life? How do you do that in the midst of being a 2009 middle schooler in the U.S.A? Join us as we slow down for a weekend to listen for that of God and consider what’s most important to us.
Jan. 8-10, 2010 Westport Monthly Meeting (MA)
Join us for this
annual retreat where we all share music that expresses what we feel
and know of that of God. A wide range of music workshops in the
afternoon and a coffeehouse Saturday evening celebrate how diverse,
powerful, and personal music is for each of us. It is a rare gift
to be heard and to hear others within a safe and loving community –
please come!
Feb. 26-28, 2010 Wellesley Monthly Meeting (MA)
Attributed to
Mother Teresa and adopted by Kevin Lee, this quote is a powerful and
loving reminder that our bodies and lives are unique and sacred
gifts. What is real beauty? How do we deal with our culture’s
images of beauty, feminism and masculinity? And, what does it mean
to treat ourselves as holy temples having that of God within? Join
us as we retreat from the buzz and frenzy of the world to enjoy and
take care.
March 19-21, 2010 Westport Monthly Meeting (MA)
This
annual retreat at Westport Meeting, just for our beloved 6th
graders, is jointly offered by the JYM and JHYM Retreat programs.
Registrations for this one-of-a-kind special retreat are welcome
anytime. Please be in touch with Kevin Lee, JYM Retreats leader
and/or Gretchen, JHYM Retreats leader.
“Callings, Leadings & Wakings in the Night”
Card-carrying adults aren’t the only ones who hear these knockings! Has God ever nudged you? It could be on a bike, at the beach, in worship, or at 3 A.M. How do Friends listen for movements of the Spirit within -- and what helps us to be faithful when we hear them? On Saturday afternoon we will go on service projects in the Portland area to give -- and receive, too. In the evening, our 8th graders will have a chance to hear about Young Friends and then feel our community’s love and affirmation as they prepare to move up to the high school program in the fall.
