Our staff come in all shapes and sizes. Some attend rural meetings, others
from cities. Some are peace activists, others are active caring for the
earth. We have scientists, teachers, laborers, lawyers, counselors artists and
farmers. Many have staffed with us for years. What they share in common is
how they truly honor and cherish the lives and Spirit of our children.

As
the Coordinator of JYM Retreats, I select adult staff with great
care. We look for adults who are sensitive to, and enjoy being
with, our Quaker children. An ability to nurture, laugh and
attend to the precious spirits of children are crucial
priorities when selecting staff. In addition, persons with
demonstrated experience in the arts and/or sustained gifts in
various aspects of ministry are also sought. Please read
my Credo In Ministry, which further explains our approach and philosophy.
Our Policy
If
you are a member of the Religious Society of Friends and would
like to be considered for staffing, please contact
Kevin and request
an Application Form well in advance of when you’d like to join
us for a retreat. Once an application has been received and assuming
the applicant is suitable for our program, I will send you three
JYM Staff Reference Forms and have you give them to the three
Friends listed as references on your application. They fill them
out and return them to me directly via US Mail. Due to the time it takes for us to receive completed
references, this process generally takes at
least sixty days. All references must be completed, returned
to me, and approved before the applicant can join
us on staff. Our staffing policy has been in practice for many
years and is approved by the Youth Programs Committee of New England
Yearly Meeting.
We
typically have ten to twelve staffers at any given retreat and
maintain a 5 to 1 ratio of children to staff.
We are pleased to say that we have some of the finest,
most generous, talented, and spiritually centered Resource Leaders
to be found anywhere.
Thank
you for your interest in joining us.

Why staff? Staffing creates an opportunity to get
to know some amazing children (not to mention some wonderful adults, too!)
in a retreat community. Staffing involves teaching, leading, listening,
nurturing, being fully present and working within an atmosphere of love
and respect. Time and again, many staffers also discover the presence and
grace of what comes from the Spirit, in the middle of all that we do.
